Microsoft included the Alt +Tab keyboard shortcut into its Windows operating system to provide a simple and efficient means of switching between open windows. Thinking Minds Building Bytes took this bit of functionality, improved upon it, and came up with the DeskPose 2D application. When you press the assigned hotkey or place the mouse cursor in the assigned active corner, DeskPose 2D takes all open windows, scales them, presents them to you as thumbnails, and allows you to easily switch from one window to another.

Modern PCs will have no problems meeting the DeskPose 2D minimum system requirements: 1.4GHz processor with SSE2 technology, 1GB of RAM memory and 64MB of video memory, graphics card that supports DirectX 9, Windows Vista/7/8 with Aero enabled. The recommended system requirements for running DeskPose 2D are: 2GHz 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM memory and 256Mb of video memory, graphics card that can run DirectX 10. You will also need an internet connection to activate DeskPose 2D.

While the application is running, you will see a DeskPose 2D icon in the system tray. Double click this icon and the application will present all your open windows. Right click the icon and you will be presented with a context menu that, among other things, allows you to launch DeskPose 2D in slow motion and access the Options menu. From the aforementioned Options menu you can choose if you want the application to automatically run at startup, change the hotkey for launching DeskPose 2D, choose what each active corner does, and more.

There’s nothing complicated about using DeskPose 2D. You can access the application’s functionality in one of three ways: double click the system tray icon, use the F11 hotkey (this is the default, you can change it to something else), or place the mouse cursor in the upper left hand corner. When DeskPose 2D launches, it presents scaled previews of all your open windows. Click a window and you will switch to it. It is as simple as that.

DeskPose 2D is free to use for a trial period of 120 minutes.

DeskPose 2D provides a very handy and visually appealing means of switching between windows.

Pros

Modern PCs will easily meet DeskPose 2D’s system requirements. There are three means of launching DeskPose 2D: system tray, active corner, hotkey. You can change the hotkeys and you can choose what the active corners do. You can use a search box to search for windows by their title or process name.

Cons

Free to use for 120 minutes.
